DETROIT, Nov. 29, 2021 – Pro Musica of Detroit is proud to present Eliot Heaton, violin, and Pauline Martin, piano, in a special program on Thursday, Dec. 9 that illuminates the wondrous influence of America’s original musical form, jazz, on modern works of classical music through performance and conversation.
Free and open to audiences who pre-register, the program will be streamed online Dec. 9, beginning at 7 p.m. The Dec. 9 Pro Musica LIVE program also includes interviews and conversation with program host Cecelia Sharpe of WRCJ 90.9 FM.
The Dec. 9 Pro Musica LIVE presentation marks the first program of the 2021-2022 season which includes both online and in-person concert performances. “We listened to our long-time subscribers and our newest patrons after last season where we moved entirely online and heard that while many are looking forward to reengaging at in person concerts, many enjoy the online format as well,” said Tony Ruda, Pro Musica’s President. “So, this season we are providing both opportunities for maximum flexibility and to serve our growing audiences beyond Detroit.”
Violinist Eliot Heaton is the current Concertmaster of the Michigan Opera Theatre, Des Moines Metro Opera, and the Saginaw Bay Symphony. Canadian born pianist Pauline Martin is recognized for her solo and chamber music performances, recordings, and national broadcasts. Ms. Martin serves as Artistic Director of Chamber Soloists of Detroit (CSD) and is a Steinway Artist. Mr. Heaton is a member of CSD, a consortium of classical musicians based in Southeast Michigan.
Mr. Heaton and Ms. Martin will explore and discuss the influences of jazz on classical music in this delightful program. Selections range from Maurice Ravel, Fritz Kreisler and Eddie South to Giuseppe “Joe” Venuti and Astor Piazzolla.
Hosted by Cecelia Sharpe of WRCJ 90.9 FM, the Pro Musica LIVE program includes musical selections and conversations conducted exclusively for Pro Musica of Detroit audiences. Performances and discussions with the artist evoke the traditional Pro Musica concert experience.
To enjoy Mr. Heaton and Ms. Martin’s Pro Musica LIVE performance, listeners are invited to visit promusicadetroit.com where they can register for the free Dec. 9 webcast. An evening of streamed music and conversation with world-class musicians and composers, the Pro Musica LIVE programs are free of charge and open to all who enjoy the musical arts.
