About Pro Musica of Detroit
Now entering our 99th concert season, Pro Musica of Detroit is among the city’s oldest presenters of fine music, and the only Pro Musica Society in the United States in continuous operation since its founding. Past artists have included some of the most well-known names in classical music, including composers Béla Bartók, Maurice Ravel, Aaron Copland, Sergei Prokofiev, Francis Poulenc, William Bolcom, and Michael Daugherty; and a world class roster of musicians that includes Joshua Bell, Jessye Norman, Akropolis Reed Quintet, Poulenc Trio, and Benjamin Grosvenor.
The Pro Musica experience represents a unique part of Detroit’s cultural heritage that connects audiences directly to the musicians presenting each concert since Béla Bartók discussed his work and led a performance of his works at Pro Musica’s first concert in 1927. During the program, artists are encouraged to speak directly to the audience about the works and composers they are performing. Afterwards, audience members enjoy the opportunity to mingle with the artists and other audience members at an afterglow reception.
The mission of Pro Musica of Detroit is to present to its members and audiences virtuosic and emerging artists performing exquisite works of music, to highlight local, living composers and musicians, and to provide meaningful educational experiences to our local community.

The upcoming From Detroit to the World: Our 100-year anniversary Witness of Music project celebrates the past 100 years, while setting the stage for the next 100 years.
