Harry David Pevos
It is with heavy hearts we report Mr. Harry David Pevos, CPA, Treasurer of the Board of Directors and a longtime member of Pro Musica of Detroit, has passed. A resident of West Bloomfield, Michigan, Mr. Pevos died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2024, after an extended battle with cancer and kidney disease. He was 67 years of age.
“Harry Pevos was a person with an incredible amount of courage and fortitude,” Henry Murawski, secretary of Pro Musica of Detroit, said. “His kidney issues caused him to undergo medical treatment several times a week – for years. And yet, I would see and meet him recurrently at our Pro Musica of Detroit concerts – without fail. His musical artistry and knowledge – not to speak of his role as Pro Musica treasurer, were an inspiration to me and everyone who knew Harry Pevos.”
Rabbi Daniel Schwartz led services Friday, Oct. 11, at Clover Hill Park in Birmingham. Due to the onset of Yom Kippur, no formal shiva was held.
Mr. Pevos was born on a United States Air Force base in Texas in 1957, where his father served the nation on active duty. Later the family moved to the Detroit area.
As head of Pevos and Associates, Mr. Pevos provided diversified financial planning, accounting and tax services. He specialized in serving small businesses and startup companies, as well as providing expertise as a Licensed Securities Broker in the State of Michigan.
“One of the fond memories that I have of Harry is that any time I spoke with him to have him answer a tax question regarding an inflow or outflow of Pro Musica funds, a tax code, or to request a document concerning a sponsor’s donation, he would always take care of my request with a courteous attitude and help me get right to a solution,” Anthony Ruda, president emeritus of Pro Musica of Detroit, said. “He benefited the performing arts with this type of professionalism and expertise. He could also sit at a piano and play a work by Ravel or Chopin as though this was the only world he was involved in. That type of balance made him a special person to so many.”

Mr. Pevos began his career in accounting in 1981 as a CPA within small privately-owned accounting firms located in Southeast Michigan. In 1990, he formed his own business and set out to help other entrepreneurs realize their goals and dreams. Between 1999 and 2002, Mr. Pevos was a member on the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce taxation committee. His contributions helped shape Michigan’s tax laws, including the Michigan Single Business Tax Reform in 2000.
Mr. Pevos graduated Summa Cum Laude from Oakland University in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science in Management. He earned his Masters of Business Taxation in 1993 from the University of Minnesota. Mr. Pevos was licensed as a Series 7 and Series 63 Securities broker in the State of Michigan and was a Registered Investment Advisor. Mr. Pevos also was a member in good standing of the Detroit Regional, Southfield, and West Bloomfield Chambers of Commerce. He also was a Member of the Entrepreneurs’ Network of Michigan.
In his spare time, Mr. Pevos enjoyed the arts, travel and current events. However, he especially enjoyed classical music. He was an accomplished amateur pianist, who performed for the members of Pro Musica gathered for the organization’s annual meetings.
Mr. Pevos is survived by his sister, Debra (Jeffrey Bussell) Pevos; nieces and nephew, Anna Terebelo, Adam Bussell, Lauren Bussell and Emily Sias; aunt and uncle, Susan and Robert Guerin. Also survived by loving cousins, other family members and friends. Harry was the son of the late Daniel and the late Suzanne Pevos; brother of the late Julie (Craig) Pevos Sias and nephew of the late Ray and the late Joni Pevos.
The family requested that those who wish to further honor the memory of Mr. Pevos may do so by making a contribution to either Pro Musica of Detroit, Tuesday Musicale of Detroit, Yad Ezra, or to a charity of one’s choice.
