Eliot Heaton

Violinist Eliot Heaton is the current Concertmaster of the Michigan Opera Theatre, Des Moines Metro Opera, and the Saginaw Bay Symphony. He previously served as Concertmaster of the Terre Haute Symphony and Oberlin Symphony orchestras, and has played as guest Concertmaster with the Lansing Symphony, Fort Wayne Philharmonic, and the Columbus Indiana Philharmonic.

Eliot has appeared as a soloist with a number of orchestras throughout the Midwest, performing a wide variety of concertos from the nineteenth, twentieth, and twenty-first centuries. He also performs regularly on a number of chamber series, including Chamber Soloists of Detroit, the Scarab Club, New Music Detroit, the Geneva Music Festival, and Manchester Summer Chamber Music.

Eliot was a double major at Oberlin College and Conservatory, earning degrees in History and in violin performance, the latter with Professor Marilyn McDonald. He later received his Master of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, studying violin with Professor Kevork Mardirossian and completing an outside area specialty in jazz studies. When he’s not playing the violin, Eliot enjoys reading, tennis, and spending time with his wife and their two cats.

Pauline Martin

Pianist PAULINE MARTIN’s Washington debut captured the Washington Post headline, Pauline Martin’s Dazzling Debut. The Canadian born pianist went on to earn international recognition for her “gripping” performances, often recorded for broadcast in Canada, the U.S. and Europe. A frequent soloist with orchestras in Canada and the U.S., her March, 2009 performance of Mozart’s Concerto K. 365 with the Detroit Symphony Civic Orchestra was recorded by Chinese National Television for broadcast to an audience of over a billion viewers.

A Steinway artist, Pauline has recorded for the Naxos, Koch, CRS and Kipling House labels. As a founding member of the St. Clair Trio, she is a recipient of the prestigious Chamber Music America/WQXR-FM award for “Old Acquaintances” (Koch) and a first-round Grammy nominee for “Hobson’s Choice”(Koch). Other credits include the Sarasota (Florida), Summer Serenades (Maryland), Scandinavian Winter Days (Reykjavik) and Aria International Festivals as well as Michigan’s Ann Arbor, Mackinac Island, Grove and Irving S. Gilmore Festivals. Pauline has served on the faculties of Wayne State, Oakland and Michigan State Universities, and holds Bachelor’s and Master’s performance degrees from Indiana University and a doctorate in performance from the University of Michigan. She currently balances an active performance and teaching schedule with the artistic direction of Chamber Soloists of Detroit.

About the Host

Ms. Cecelia Sharpe, a graduate of Wayne State University, has been teaching and advocating for youth and the arts for more than 10 years. In addition to her roles as an educator and advocate for youth and the arts, Ms. Sharpe is pursuing her passion for broadcast radio. Since 2014 she has been sharing her voice on WRCJ 90.9 FM. Ms. Sharpe serves as a guest host for the station, produces the “In Concert with the Wu Family Academy Showcase” program, as well as the “Live with C#” program.

Ms. Sharpe also is an active freelance musician. She performs with well-noted Detroit area artists and provides string instruments for recordings. Currently, Ms. Sharpe has incorporated her love for travel and people into a career as a flight attendant. Ms. Sharpe teaches at the Detroit Waldorf School and is excited about continuing to develop the talents and skills of students through music.
